snow emergency?

It's still amazes me how a storm that brings just shy of 1.5 feet of snow in MINNESOTA triggers the same kneejerk oh-my-god-i-need-to-call-all-of-my-relatives-and-make-sure-they're-OK-and-that-they-remember-to-drive-slowly-in-these-hazardous-conditions reaction I figured was saved for those Pompeii and Chernobyl types of days. This is Minnesota. Everyone owns a shovel, so relax.

What really is a bummer is that a little snow shuts down all cultural attractions in the grand metropolis. The Walker Art Center was closed, as one would find out NOT by checking the snowed-in website, but only by actually GOING there to read the little 8"x11" sign freshly printed by some intern. It turns out the Minneapolis Institute of Art had its own little piece of paper taped to a sign in the main entrance.

The little tour of downtown on Friday DID render this little gem of graffiti, though.

In other news, i booked a flight to Ecuador for 3/14, to spend a week and a half in the Andes. I justify it as "thesis research." wink.

Hey! Listen to this. It's a band called Young Marble Giants, formed in the year of my birth in England, kind of a post-punk, simple guitar riff supporting a flowing female vocal track. Have fun.
